Feature request: Fit-class-driven geometry with nominal, machining-target, and 3D-print modes

Дата публикации: 24-10-2026 00:38:31

I’d like Fusion to let a fit specification drive model geometry, with a global switch between different representations of the same design. For example, I’d like to assign a nominal diameter and an ISO fit class such as H7 or g6 directly to a sketch dimension or feature. Fusion would calculate the deviations for that nominal size and update them automatically when the size changes. The key would be keeping the nominal dimension and fit specification separate from the dimension currently represented by the solid. My use case has three modes:Machining targetModel features at a chosen point within their tolerance range, ideally the midpoint by default. This would be my normal working view for cross sections, assembly visualization, and target-sized STEP exports. I understand that STEP geometry alone does not communicate an acceptance tolerance to a manufacturer.NominalReturn designated toleranced features to their nominal dimensions, including line-to-line mating geometry where appropriate. Drawings should retain the underlying fit specification and allow fit-class, numerical deviation, or limit annotations without manually re-entering tolerance data. Ideally, target-based drawings could also express the same acceptance limits relative to the modeled target dimension.Prototype/printingApply process-specific allowances for FDM, SLA, or SLS while preserving the intended fit behavior. A running fit should remain a practical running fit when printing a prototype at full or reduced scale. These allowances should apply at the final print size, rather than shrinking along with the model. For example, a nominal Ø20 H7/g6 interface would use its calculated target dimensions in machining mode, Ø20 for both members in nominal mode, and a calibrated printing clearance in FDM mode. At half scale, the nominal diameter would become Ø10, but the printing clearance would remain appropriate for the printer.Ideally, the workflow would support:Fit-class inputs on driving dimensions or parameters, with automatic size-dependent lookup.A global nominal/midpoint/limits selector, with per-feature exceptions.Paired mating features showing minimum and maximum clearance or interference.Printing profiles with control over whether allowances modify the hole, shaft, or both.Exceptions for purchased hardware that must remain full size.Drawings and exports that use the selected representation while retaining the original nominal dimension and tolerance specification.A parameter/configuration workaround seems possible, but it requires repeated lookup formulas and several parameters per feature. That becomes cumbersome to maintain across an assembly. The older “Model based tolerances” request describes much of the same core need:https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/fusion-360-ideastation-archived/model-based-tolerances/idi-p/7537223Is this workflow being considered? Could the team clarify whether model-associated tolerance development is intended to include tolerances that drive geometry, as well as annotations?Even an initial implementation covering ISO fits and a nominal/midpoint switch would be very useful. Thanks
