This weekend the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles held it's sixth annual Academy Museum Gala, welcoming celebrities along its red carpet and into its walls to raise money for its exhibitions, film screenings, community programs, and educational initiatives. While method dressing wasn't actively encouraged, it seems the A-listers got the memo to honour the Hollywood stars who came before them, taking their cues from the Golden Age of film-making (the 1930's-1960s).
The red carpet looked like a walk back in time with vintage curls, cat-eye liner, side-flipped partings, ball gowns and nipped-waist skirt suits. It seemed that the guests embodied the very legacies they came to celebrate.
Taylor Swift channelled Grace Kelly
While we know that Taylor Swift holds old-school Hollywood in high esteem, with Elizabeth Taylor a particular muse, Taylor channelled Grace Kelly with her shoulder length golden blonde hair styled into vintage curls and pinned to frame her face. She opted for a 1950s style feline eye liner and wore a dove blue floor-length gown that the greats would have approved of.

Jodie Turner-Smith served up cinched tailoring and classically defined makeup, not unlike trailblazing American actress, singer, and dancer, Dorothy Dandridge. Jodie gave us a 2026 update to a cocktail hat with a sculptural silk zebra print headpiece, that matched her nipped-waist skirt suit.

From one blonde bombshell to another, Pamela Anderson swapped her iconic Pammy Updo for some Marilyn Monroe-inspired peroxide curls and a soft statement lip, though she kept the rest of her makeup minimal and glowy.

Known for their preference for a timeless, sophisticated and classic approach to beauty and fashion, both Kendall Jenner and Audrey Hepburn are the ingenue's of their day. With their gamine features, wide eyes, feline lashes and face-framing brows, both prefer to play up what they already have with their hair swept back off their face. Kendall channelled an Audrey-inspired gown silhouette also for the occasion with a strapless bodice and classic polka dot print.

It wouldn't be an old Hollywood-inspired red carpet without some side-flipped Hollywood waves and Laura Harrier was there to deliver the goods. Tapping up a well-established hairstyle, coined by Hollywood greats like Lauren Bacall, Veronica Lake and Rita Hayworth, Laura's look felt modern and classic.

Kim Kardashian has been known to mine the archives for her gala looks. For the 2022 Met Gala she wore Marilyn Monroe's Mr President dress, but for the 2026 Academy Museum Gala, she paid homage to that president's wife, Jackie Kennedy with a voluminous bouffant, a collar necklace and defined brows and lashes.
