You don’t have to tip that street performer, says Clark County.

Digital marquees on the Strip have a new message: “When watching a performance or taking a photo, tipping is not required.”

The signs from Clark County are being put up for “public safety,” said a representative from the county.

Clark County Commissioner Michael Naft who serves District A, directed visitors to look for nearby law enforcement or call 911 if they felt harassed in an X post on Saturday.

The following message has been added to displays on Las Vegas Boulevard by @ClarkCountyNV. Watching a performance or taking a photo with someone does not obligate you to tip. If you feel harassed, look for a nearby police officer or call 911. https://t.co/pIs93Lbzr1

Street performers and costumed individuals have been a mainstay on the Strip, looking to tourists to kick over extra cash for watching a performance or taking a picture with them. Although recently, showgirl impersonators on the Strip became the subject of a viral video after a picture led to a brawl.

Couple Eric Richards and Merihazel Walters from Charlotte, North Carolina, were visiting Las Vegas for their big day and took pictures with two showgirls. The couple paid $20 for the photos, but the showgirls, Jennifer Ortiz and Magdellena Romero, requested more money.

When Richards attempted to walk away, Ortiz followed and lobbed profanity before initiating the alleged attack, according to a report from the Metropolitan Police Department.

Walters told a Metro officer that Ortiz had demanded between $60 and $180 before striking Richards with her hands. When she tried to intervene, Walters said she was tackled by Romero, who struck her multiple times in the head with a closed fist before Richards was able to push Romero off, the arrest report said.

Police surveillance footage and video obtained from Planet Hollywood appeared to match Richards and Walters’ version of events, the arresting officer wrote in his report.

During the couple’s wedding, Richards sported a 2-inch gash on his forehead.
