We are sharing this so that EV owners living in the many many many condominiums and also flats around the country will be better prepared when it comes to having access to charging points available at their home, near their home or at their place of work (or along the way to and from work).

With EV ownership, planning is vital as you do not want to be ‘stuck’ without an AC or even DC charger near your home.

The “Brick” State & Deep Discharge Anxiety is real! Dropping down to just 6% of battery power on his EV leaves virtually zero margin for error and this is why DJ Ean is sharing his frustration.

If a targeted public charger like the units at his condominium turns out to be out of service, offline, or refusing to handshake with the vehicle’s software, EV owners face immediate range panic.

The question is this, why is taking the condominium management more than 2 days to fix their EV Charging points? Is it an issue with TNB or is it an issue with cost to repair or is it an issue with the charging point supplier/owner who has shut down the service due to some payment issue.

Logic will dictate that repairing an EV charger should be easily done in less than 24 hours. It is NOT rocket science.

Research online says that shared or smart chargers managed by a CPO (Charge Point Operator) rely on mobile data or Wi-Fi. Poor mobile signal at the condominium (well residents can still use their smartphones so can’t be this issue), server downtimes or app communication handshakes can block the charger from authenticating or starting the battery charge.

Research also says that power surges, worn-out internal relays or capacitor degradation can freeze the charger’s internal computer or cut power supply components but again this could easily be rectified in 24 hours.

We hope that DJ Ean (who used to drive an ‘engaging’ Ford Focus ST hot hatch) gets his EV charged up very very soon as we need to be at work (he is the breakfast show DJ on Fly FM 95.8 every weekday) every morning chirpy and entertaining.
