  • Canadian pricing for 2027 Mitsubishi Eclipse Sportback begins at $48,998 (before fees)
  • A comparable Nissan Leaf S+ EV comes in nearly $4,000 cheaper
  • Standard 75-kWh battery delivers an estimated driving range of up to 454 km

Mitsubishi returns to Canada’s EV segment with the 2027 Eclipse Sportback, reaching dealerships in November. If you recall, this Japanese automaker was among the very first to introduce an EV to Canada with its i-MiEV, back in late 2011. The new electric Eclipse Sportback crossover comes with a starting MSRP of $48,998, excluding freight, additional fees, and applicable government incentives. Adding the optional Technology Package increases the price to $54,098.

The entry version qualifies for the federal Electric Vehicle Affordability Program (EVAP), which currently provides eligible buyers with an incentive of up to $5,000. Provincial rebates may also apply.

Energy comes from the standard 75-kWh lithium-ion battery, giving the Eclipse Sportback an estimated maximum range of 454 km. A J1772 port accommodates Level 1 and Level 2 charging; while an NACS port supports DC fast-charging.

Mitsubishi has yet to confirm the crossover’s official specifications, such as output and maximum charging rate. However, because they share a platform, it is reasonable to expect the Sportback to feature the same front-mounted electric motor as the Nissan Leaf, producing 214 hp and 261 lb-ft of torque. A peak DC charging rate of 150 kW is also anticipated.

The comparison with the Leaf is inevitable. The recently announced entry-level 2027 Leaf S begins at $34,998, with fees and levies, pushing it to just shy of $38,000. The S’ MSRP undercuts the base Eclipse Sportback by $14,000, although its smaller 53-kWh battery limits estimated range to 341 km. The Leaf S+ provides a closer match. Its 75-kWh battery delivers an estimated 488 km of range, or 34 km more than the Mitsubishi. With an MSRP of $45,198, the S+ is also $3,800 less expensive.

Mitsubishi counters with stronger warranty coverage. The Eclipse Sportback includes a five-year or 100,000-km comprehensive warranty; and a 10-year/160,000-km limited warranty for the powertrain and lithium-ion battery. Five years of roadside assistance are included as well. Nissan’s basic new-vehicle warranty runs for three years, or 60,000 km. Leaf EV components receive five-year/100,000-km coverage, while the battery is protected for eight years or 160,000 km.

The Eclipse Sportback becomes Mitsubishi’s first new vehicle launched under its Momentum 2030 strategy. The plan calls for at least one new or extensively refreshed model every year from fiscal 2026 through fiscal 2030.
