From September 7 to 10, 2026, the international conference "Physical Mesomechanics: Materials with Multilevel Hierarchically Organized Structures and Intelligent Manufacturing Technologies" (MESO 2026) was held in Tomsk at the Institute of Strength Physics and Materials Science of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (ISPMS SB RAS). Andrey Ryabykh, Candidate of Chemical Sciences and Associate Professor at the Department of Physical and Inorganic Chemistry, presented a paper on behalf of Altai State University.
The conference brought together researchers from physics, mechanics, chemistry, mathematics, and machine learning. A dedicated session focused on biomaterials and nanomaterials for the medicine of the future.
Andrey Ryabykh presented a paper titled "Application of Conceptual Density Functional Theory to the Computational Design of Modified Fullerene Nanostructures" during the session on the computational design of materials.
My presentation focused on the computational design of modified fullerenes—carbon nanostructures that hold great promise for biomedicine and nanoelectronics. Using conceptual density functional theory, we systematically investigated how the nature and number of functional atomic groups influence the electronic structure, reactivity, and hydrophilicity of these molecules. The patterns we identified form the basis for the rational design of fullerene nanomaterials with tailored properties.
MESO is a unique scientific event. It is a venue where specialists in physics, chemistry, mechanics, and machine learning meet and exchange expertise. It is precisely this kind of exchange that fosters breakthrough solutions. I would also like to highlight that our university—represented by Professor Sergey Beznosyuk, Head of the Department of Physical and Inorganic Chemistry—contributes to the organization of this event. Sergey Alexandrovich is a member of the conference's international organizing committee. I am proud to be part of this school of thought, said Andrey Ryabykh.
