From September 14 to 17, Yekaterinburg hosted the 17th Scientific Assembly of ARGO (Association of Russian Human Geographers) alongside the international scientific conference Spatial Development in the Context of Global Changes: Current Directions of Interdisciplinary Research.
Daniil Kirillov, a post-graduate student at the Department of Economic Geography and Cartography (supervised by associate professor Andrey Bondarovich), presented his paper in the Urals capital titled Forecasting the Socio-Economic Development of Altai Krai Using the Global Change Analysis Model (GCAM) and Shared Socio-Economic Pathways (SSP) Scenarios at a workshop for young scientists held at the Institute of Economics of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (UB RAS).
His work was highly commented by the expert panel: out of twenty submissions, Daniil Kirillov’s presentation was ranked in the top three. The experts highlighted the practical significance and timeliness of long-term forecasting for Altai Krai’s development under conditions of global climate change.
The study was carried out with the support of Anatoly Lagutin, Director of the Space Monitoring Center, Professor at the Institute of Digital Technologies, Electronics and Physics, and Head of the Department of Radiophysics and Theoretical Physics, and Egor Mordvin, a leading researcher at the Laboratory of Space Monitoring and Computational Technologies (a joint laboratory with the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences) at Altai State University.
The research was conducted as part of state-funded Project FZMW-2026-0007: Climate Change in Western Siberia in the Second Quarter of the 21st Century: New Technologies and Data, and Assessments of Impacts on the Natural Environment and Regional Economy (Project Leader: Professor Anatoly Lagutin).
