It’s been a mixed campaign for a club that celebrated its 200th birthday this summer. A harsh 50-point deduction for fielding an ineligible player ended a potential title challenge early in the season, but Oundle responded well enough to climb to fourth in the final table. They would only have been a place higher without the punishment.

But they did twice beat their local rivals comfortably with the 75-run win on Saturday ensuring they overtook their hosts in the final standings. It would have been a much bigger margin of victory without number seven Scott Howard’s unbeaten 72 for the hosts. compiled during a last wicket stand of 63 with Jamie Smith.

Peterborough Town finished on 234 all out replying to Oundle’s 50-over total of 314-8. That was built around 99 from skipper Mark Hodgson and 73 from Conor Craig. They added a quickfire 116 for the third wicket.

The city side’s disappointing season ended with three straight defeats. They lost eight of their 18 top-flight games which is considerably more than usual.

It was a more competitive division than usual, but regular champions Finedon finished top for the fifth straight year despite two of their four defeats arriving at the hands of Peterborough Town.

Peterborough Town seconds finished a creditable eighth in Division One. The only second team in the division won by five runs at Woollaston in their final outing. Emerging teenage talent Siddharth Shanmugaraj (71no) was Town’s top scorer in a total of 201.

Oundle seconds finished seventh in Division Three, while the club’s third team finished 10th in Division Nine and have been relegated. They lost their final fixture by three wickets at Podington despite an unbeaten ton from George Davies.

Peterborough Town clinched second spot behind first-time champions Newborough in Rutland Division One with a six-wicket win at home to Ufford Park. Bashrat Hussain was the main man here with an unbeaten 95.

Oundle seconds sealed second-place and promotion in Rutland Division Four with a four-wicket over Kettering at Milton Road on Sunday. Henry Wood-Davies (5-16) and Harry Westbrook (53 not out) were the star performers for Oundle.

Aarav Roy took 8-21 in six-and-a-half overs as Peterborough Town seconds finished their Division Four season with a six-wicket win at champions Kimbolton.
