Elliot Anderson was superb today.

The man was everywhere in that game and seemed to shoulder extra responsibility in the middle of the park once Phil Foden was sent off.

He drove Manchester City forward with line-breaking passes when he got the ball, plus was brilliant at breaking up play when Manchester United were coming at him.

The England international has settled in incredibly well at City after what was a tough debut in the Community Shield against Arsenal.

It seems like money well spent by City.

I'm confused. We put things in place in the game now. We have people in offices with all the screens for this decision. It's more worrying about if that's the interpretation of football now. If that's the interpretation of not interfering in the game now, that's really worrying for me. It's a staggering explanation.

The decision isn't going to change the season, but it's had a major impact on the game. That decision wasn't on us today. It's up to us to create and score after that. We had moments. Of course it's up to us to do that, but big moments in games like that have a big impact.

A quick word for Iliman Ndiaye; how good was he?

Enzo Maresca's move to hook Rayan Cherki off at half-time for Ndiaye proved to be a masterstroke; it may well have even won Manchester City the match.

The winger was absolutely superb in that second half, constantly leading the press and winning his battles.

He is known for his incredible attacking play, but it was his defensive work that he deserves credit for tonight.

No wonder he was celebrating so hard at full-time. What a display.

When isn't Erling Haaland making history, let's be real.

The striker's goalscoring exploits seem to break records every week; the man is just a joke of a player.

Haaland is now the outright top goalscorer in Premier League Manchester derbies with nine goals, surpassing Sergio Agüero and Wayne Rooney, who netted eight in this fixture.

I imagine there will be many more to come, too.

I think [Fernandez] was offside. What I can’t understand is the rules. He was there. I went to him because he was in front of me. That’s why Haaland was free at the back.

I want to be calm but it is so hard. Every season the officials come to our club and spend an hour explaining the rules and they look so confident with that.

Then after five or six people (officials) doing this kind of mistake in the Premier League is unacceptable. We have to go home with this injustice. Definitely [I would have marked Haaland], it’s as simple as that.

This hasn't really happened a lot in my lifetime that we go down to 10 men, so it's a kind of new experience to win with 10 men. It's amazing. I have to be honest. We had to lay low, which is not ideal. We like to keep the ball, we like to try to score goals, but these times, you have to go a bit lower and take your chances when it's possible. We managed to do that well. This shows personality, character to keep the ball away at Old Trafford, with 10 men. That is personality.

We had to change the plan a bit, but Enzo gave us a plan where we could play to our different strengths and counter-attack a bit more. For me personally, I just had to be there, to try to wait for a chance, and if there's a chance, I had to be ready to execute. We also needed fighters in the team, which we have plenty of. Look at our midfield - it's something they like to do! I'm so, so proud of everyone. Even with 10 men, we're still a good team and we showed that today. I think we even became sharper with 10 men. That's how we have to play all the time, even with 11 men.

On whether he thought his winner should have stood:

I thought there was maybe someone who flicked it because I normally don't go offside, so I told Michael Oliver I took it a bit personally that he thought I was offside. But I looked over to the gaffer and he gave me a thumbs up and I knew then it was a goal, so I prepared myself to go and celebrate. It's always nice to win football games and I never take that for granted but, especially with 10 men at Old Trafford, it's a difficult task. It's so nice.

VAR checked the referee’s call of no goal for offside – and determined that Haaland was in an onside position and recommended that the goal was awarded.

The VAR also deemed that while in an offside position, Fernandez didn’t play the ball.

Right, we need to get things straight here.

Yes, Erling Haaland's winner shouldn't have counted, but that doesn't mean that Manchester City didn't deserve the three points.

Manchester United were incredibly poor despite having the man advantage, and didn't deserve a point for that display.

City were well worth the win for their bravery and courage after going down to ten, and the fact that they still created some big chances while keeping United at bay.

A controversial winner, but a well-deserved win.
