Marcus Wareing says Gregg Wallace is moving on after the MasterChef scandal, which led to the former BBC presenter's dismissal in July 2025.
Marcus Wareing believes Gregg Wallace is moving on with his life after being dismissed from MasterChef following an investigation into historical misconduct allegations. The celebrity chef said he occasionally sees Wallace on social media and expressed goodwill towards his former colleague.
Speaking to The Sunday Times, Wareing, who has judged MasterChef: The Professionals since 2014, acknowledged that the situation had been difficult for Wallace and former MasterChef co-host John Torode. However, he said the controversy was separate from his own professional life.
Marcus Wareing Says Gregg Wallace Is Moving OnWareing indicated that he and Wallace were not necessarily in regular contact, explaining that he sometimes saw updates about the former presenter on social media.
"I'm not necessarily in contact with him, but I will see the odd thing on social media."
"I'll see Gregg every so often on social media, and he's moving on," Wareing said.
"There's no point in keeping in touch with people all the time. It can remind you of what happened before. But he seems to be doing alright. I'm happy for him."
Wareing's comments suggest he wishes Wallace well but don't indicate the pair have maintained a close relationship. His remarks focused on Wallace's life after the controversy rather than revisiting the allegations in detail.
Why Gregg Wallace Left MasterChefWallace stepped away from presenting MasterChef and its spin-off shows in November 2024 while historical misconduct allegations were investigated.
An independent investigation commissioned by production company Banijay UK examined 83 allegations and substantiated 45. The findings included inappropriate sexual language and humor, culturally insensitive or racist comments, bullying and one incident of unwelcome physical contact.
Following the findings, the BBC confirmed that Wallace would not return to the program.
Wallace apologized for any distress caused by his behavior but maintained that the report had "cleared my name of the most serious and sensational claims." In January 2026, he also addressed his conduct and initial response to the allegations in a statement published on Substack.
Torode was also dismissed from MasterChef in July 2025 after an allegation involving the use of an extremely offensive racist term was upheld. He said he had no recollection of the incident and was shocked by the finding.
MasterChef Continues Without Its Former HostsWallace and Torode had presented the main MasterChef series together since 2005. Their departures marked a significant change for the BBC cooking competition.
Wareing, meanwhile, has continued judging MasterChef: The Professionals alongside Monica Galetti, maintaining his association with the franchise despite the controversy surrounding its former presenters.
In February 2026, Wallace discontinued his legal claim against the BBC over alleged failures to disclose his personal data, which he said had caused him distress and harassment. The BBC confirmed that he would receive no payment in damages or costs.
Wareing's comments do not suggest any direct involvement in Wallace's legal dispute or the investigation. Instead, they offer a limited insight into his view of a former colleague following a controversy that significantly changed the show's presenting team.
