A series of controversial claims about UFOs and aliens from a top Pentagon official have been raising eyebrows this week.

Jay Stratton - once the director of the Pentagon's Unidentified Aerial Phenomena Task Force before retiring from the role in 2022 - has made some startling claims in his new book Out of the Shadows: Revealing the Truth About Non-Human Intelligent Life.

Based on his 33 years in the US military and intelligence community, the book, which details his 16 years spent on investigating UFOs, had allegedly needed to be vetted by 21 departments and agencies before it could be published.

Some of his claims, including that military contractors maintain control of at least a dozen UFOs, have been met with some considerable skepticism.

He also maintains that missions had been conducted to retrieve 'non-human vehicles and bodies' and that alien entities had been recovered from the 1947 Roswell crash in New Mexico.

Stratton even claims to have witnessed a UAP first-hand during a nuclear submarine operation.

Harvard's Avi Loeb, who is now chair of the UAP Science Advisory Council, remains unconvinced.

His team, which has looked at numerous UFO incidents, has yet to find evidence that links UAPs to non-human visitors and has concluded that a significant number of cases have conventional explanations.

"The claims Jay makes are not corroborated by publicly verifiable data," Loeb wrote.

Whether or not Stratton is telling the truth remains, for the moment at least, unclear.
