Terrifying 911 audio captured the moment a witness reported a man who tried to kidnap a 13-year-old girl outside of a Florida gas station.
Michael Polanco, 32, was arrested after police said he attempted to abduct the teen on Monday in broad daylight at a Shell gas station in Miramar, about 20 miles outside of Miami.
Surveillance footage allegedly showed Polanco approach the girl and grab her neck before she escaped.
A man who witnessed the incident called 911 and reported what he saw, according to audio NBC6 obtained.
'A guy just tried to grab a kid,' the witness said, adding that it happened about two minutes before he placed the call.
He told the dispatcher that the man, later identified by police as Polanco, left the area on a scooter.
According to the local news station, the witness spoke with the victim and relayed information while calling 911.
Polanco allegedly asked the girl to request scissors from the man who made the 911 call, but she did not, according to court records viewed by the Daily Mail.
Girl escapes alleged abduction attemptThe victim told police that is when he grabbed her by the neck and began walking away with her.
Another witness who was working at a nearby auto shop told NBC 6 he watched Polanco grab the child, who looked like she was going to cry.
The girl ran inside the gas station and got help after the witness yelled at Polanco, he said.
Disturbing surveillance footage allegedly showed Polanco wearing a bright orange bicycle helmet, a blue fanny pack, a tan T-shirt and dark shorts as he approached the girl.
He then pointed toward what appeared to be a scooter in the parking lot before wrapping his arm around her neck and walking her over to another area.
But the girl soon realized something was off and escaped his grip as he tried to snatch her away, the video showed.
The teenager then ran away as Polanco threw a piece of pink fabric at her and fled the scene.
Miramar Police told the Daily Mail on Thursday that the girl was uninjured.
Suspect arrested and denied bond'The kid fought, broke free, ran into the gas station, made all the noise she could, drew attention to the situation and then people were able to call for help,' Miramar Police Chief Delrish Moss said.
'Why he came here, I don’t know, but we’re glad he was captured before he was able to do something much more sinister.'
Polanco was arrested shortly after the incident and was charged with battery, causing bodily harm and kidnapping/inflicting bodily harm upon or terrorizing the victim.
A judge denied his bond on Tuesday during a court hearing.
This is not Polanco's first run-in with the law, as the police department said he has an extensive criminal history.
He's previously committed robbery, sudden snatching, burglary with assault, trespassing, felony battery, exposure of sexual organs and more.
An attorney for Polanco has not been listed, and his next hearing has not been scheduled.
