AMD is already preparing for its future processors with integrated graphics based on the Zen 6 architecture, internally known by the codename Medusa.
The company has released a preview update of HIPRT, its ray tracing library for developers, and the official patch notes already include the first direct mentions of these new chips.
AMD Adds Early Medusa Support to Its HIPRT 3.2 Ray Tracing Library
HIPRT is a set of tools that AMD uses to handle ray tracing and acceleration structures efficiently in applications developed using the HIP interface. With version 3.2, AMD engineers have added early support for three graphics targets belonging to this upcoming generation of chips, identified as GFX1170, GFX1171, and GFX115E.
Looking more closely at the details, the first two identifiers belong to the RDNA 4m family. This means they use several advanced features from the RDNA 4 instruction set while keeping the general structure of the current RDNA 3.5 architecture. The third target, GFX115E, remains part of the GFX11.5 family, which is directly linked to RDNA 3.5.
These findings provide more information about AMD’s plans for the Medusa family, which is expected to include models such as Medusa Point with mixed graphics designs, as well as high-performance solutions like Medusa Halo, which could make the full move to RDNA 5.
For now, AMD is keeping the most important commercial details of Zen 6 under wraps, including exact clock speeds, final core counts, and the names these processors will carry when they reach stores. However, these updates in public repositories show that development work at AMD is moving forward steadily.
Besides adding support for Medusa processors, the new HIPRT 3.2 version also brings compatibility improvements for CUDA 13 and several internal improvements to geometry transformations. While these processors are not expected to arrive in stores anytime soon, the update is another clear sign that AMD’s next major generation of APUs is already taking shape.
