Google-related project in Fort Worth leaves neighbors concerned

Дата публикации: 22-10-2026 17:05:33

Residents living near Silver Creek Road say they were unaware of plans for a Google-related development until barricades appeared and construction crews began clearing the land.
Now, as dirt piles grow and roadwork continues, neighbors say their concerns are mounting.
“Well, our lives have basically been turned upside down,” said Sandy McKinney, who lives near the project.
McKinney stood outside her daughter’s home, describing how construction has changed the neighborhood.
“From a serene, quiet, end-of-the-street neighborhood to like a war zone, basically, for 12 hours a day,” she said.
McKinney said she began searching for information about the development after noticing construction equipment behind her property.
“Until I started seeing bulldozers behind my property, then I started looking it up to figure out what was going on.”
What is being built near Silver Creek Road?
According to the city of Fort Worth, the project includes a Google storage and logistics facility intended to store servers and batteries that support data centers.
However, city officials emphasized that, based on the information currently provided to them, the facility itself is not a data center.
A city spokesperson said the property appears to have been rezoned in 2021.
For residents, questions remain about the project’s scope and what the surrounding area will look like once construction is complete.
Samantha Wolff, another homeowner near the development, said she also did not know about the project until work began.
“We just don’t know how it’s going to affect the neighborhood,” Wolff said.
Neighbors want answers about noise and light pollution
Wolff and McKinney both want more information about the construction timeline and what measures, if any, will be implemented to protect nearby homes.
Among their concerns are construction noise, potential light pollution and whether the development will include adequate separation from the surrounding residential neighborhood.
Wolff said she would like to see “some kind of mitigation, some kind of buffer, something to protect the neighborhood from the noise, any light pollution.”
Residents acknowledge that the previously undeveloped land was unlikely to remain untouched forever. However, they say they want greater transparency about a project taking shape so close to their properties.
“So, yeah, a little communication would be nice and some protection for the residents that live in the neighborhood. Because I’m certain that the city council and the mayor would not want that right next to them in their backyard,” Wolff said.
NBC 5 seeks response from Google and developer
NBC 5 reached out to Google and the development company working with it regarding residents’ concerns but had not received a response at the time of reporting.
While city officials have identified the project as a storage and logistics facility supporting data centers, neighbors say they are still seeking clarity about the construction timeline and what to expect once the work is finished.
For homeowners like McKinney and Wolff, the request is straightforward: more communication and assurances about how the development will affect the neighborhood they call home.
