Before influencers, reality TV empires and social media fame became part of everyday celebrity culture, there was Anna Nicole Smith.

And now, Hollywood is bringing one of the most complicated and heartbreaking celebrity stories of the 2000s back to the screen.

The first trailer for Hurricanna has been released, offering a look at the upcoming drama exploring the final days of the American model and television personality.

Dutch actress Sylvia Hoeks takes on the role of Smith, while Mark Duplass portrays her longtime companion and lawyer Howard K. Stern. Holly Hunter also stars as her therapist.

Directed by Francesca Gregorini, the film focuses on the emotional and personal struggles surrounding the final chapter of Smith’s life.

For those unfamiliar with her story, Anna Nicole Smith rose to fame in the 1990s through modeling, eventually becoming a Playboy Playmate and the face of major fashion campaigns.

Her marriage to billionaire J. Howard Marshall brought even more public attention, followed by years of legal disputes and intense tabloid coverage.

Later, her reality series The Anna Nicole Show made her one of the defining personalities of early 2000s celebrity television.

But behind the cameras, her personal life was marked by devastating losses.

In 2006, her son Daniel died at 20. Only months later, in February 2007, Smith died from an accidental drug overdose at the age of 39.

The upcoming film revisits that difficult period, examining the relationships and circumstances surrounding her final days.

Hurricanna is scheduled for a theatrical release on January 8, 2027.

And while today’s audiences may know her mostly through old photographs and internet references, her story raises questions that remain familiar.

What happens when someone’s entire life becomes public entertainment?

And how much of the person behind the celebrity do we ever really see?
