Feds Raid Ilhan Omar Home in Immigration Fraud Probe NLPC Sought for Years

For years, National Legal and Policy Center (NLPC) has argued that if Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) gained U.S. citizenship through fraud, she should be stripped of it and deported. Federal authorities are now testing that question.

On October 12, Homeland Security Investigations agents executed a search warrant at Omar’s Washington home. Sources told Fox News the probe concerns whether she or her father lied on the paperwork that made her a citizen decades ago.

The key question is her age. Omar says she became a citizen at 17 through her father’s naturalization in 2000. Investigators want to know whether she was in fact 18, which would have required a separate application of her own.

Warrants, Subpoenas and a Brother Question

Agents took her phone, computers, notebooks and passport. A federal magistrate judge ordered a screening process to wall off legislative material protected by the Constitution’s Speech or Debate Clause.

About a dozen people, family members among them, have received subpoenas. Investigators are also weighing the claim that Omar married her brother, Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, in 2009 to help him immigrate. She has denied it for years.

Tom Homan, the White House border czar, told Fox News the government has a “strong case.” He said denaturalization and deportation are on the table if the evidence supports them. On a separate track, U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro is reviewing Omar’s financial disclosures.

What the Government Already Knows

NLPC has insisted from the start that Omar is entitled to due process, but due process doesn’t include immunity from prosecution because one is member of Congress, or a left-wing celebrity.

The answers may already sit in federal files. The FBI reportedly reviewed documents on the Elmi marriage in 2019 and 2020. In June 2024, prosecutors in the Biden Justice Department opened their own inquiry into her finances, campaign spending and contacts with a foreign national.

Whatever those agents and prosecutors found would either implicate Omar or clear her. Pulling the records and reading them is not hard work. Yet it has taken years.

Signed, Sealed and Still Waiting

That frustration led NLPC to launch its Deport Ilhan petition in 2025. Addressed to then-Attorney General Pam Bondi, it makes three requests. Review the FBI’s files. Conduct a fresh investigation. Begin deportation proceedings if Omar broke the law.

The raid shows the government may be doing what we asked. We wish it had come sooner. We welcome it all the same, and we invite readers to add their names.

Four Complaints, One Pattern

The immigration questions sit atop a long record of ethics trouble. NLPC has documented that record through four formal complaints.

The first, filed with the FEC in August 2019, concerned campaign payments to the firm of Tim Mynett, Omar’s consultant and future husband. Federal regulators told her campaign to amend its reports. Omar later dropped Mynett’s firm.

In August 2021, NLPC told the Office of Congressional Ethics that Omar had failed to report book royalties and bank accounts. In June 2024, we raised Mynett’s collapsed winery and cannabis businesses.

The most recent complaint, filed in February, challenged a disclosure valuing Mynett’s businesses at up to $30 million. Omar cut the figure to under $100,000 and blamed an accounting error. In September, the Office of Congressional Conduct recommended dismissal on a 5-1 vote. NLPC has asked the House Ethics Committee to do its job anyway.

The Road Ahead

Removing a naturalized member of Congress would be without precedent. Prosecutors must show that any false statements were deliberate.

Omar’s allies call the raid an election-season stunt. Delay, not timing, is the real scandal. These questions could have been put to rest in 2020 or in 2024.

NLPC will keep watching. If the records clear Omar, release them. If they do not, the law should apply.
