Dramatic footage showed smoke filling the skies over Manhattan after a fire broke out near the iconic Flatiron Building.

A huge fire department response was deployed to a 12-story building at West 25th Street and Broadway on Saturday, with footage showing a large plume of smoke emanating from a rooftop.

An FDNY spokesperson told the Daily Mail that two people sustained minor injuries in the fire, but they refused medical treatment at the scene.

Almost 150 fire and EMS personnel were dispatched to the scene opposite Madison Square Park, with 46 units and a number of fire engines helping tackle the blaze, the spokesperson said.

The fire department was first called to the building at 11:48am local time, and a second alarm in the building sounded at 12:17pm.

At 1:32pm, the fire was contained, the FDNY spokesperson told the Daily Mail.

The fire comes as the iconic Flatiron Building has been preparing to re-open after over seven years under construction.

The famous triangle facade had spent years under scaffolding as developers rebuilt the property, with new apartments selling for over $50 million ahead of the building's reopening for the end of 2026.

The fire on Saturday near the Flatiron Building also unfolded just days after the FDNY held a ceremony on the same block for the 60th anniversary of a fatal fire that killed 12 firefighters.

The fire in October 1966 at East 23rd Street and Broadway was one of the worst tragedies in FDNY history.

A toxic mix of paints and chemicals in an art dealership caused the fire to grow out of control, leading to the more than a dozen firefighters to lose their lives in the blaze.
