Travel Trends 2026: Why more Americans are planning one big, purposeful trip

Дата публикации: 11-03-2026 18:13:41

If you’re trying to lock in a 2026 getaway, experts say this is the year to book with a plan.
Travel insiders say many Americans are taking a “one big trip” approach in 2026 — and making it count.
“We’re seeing people be more purposeful with how they travel or where they travel,” said Katy Nastro of Going.
Instead of squeezing in multiple vacations, travelers are being more intentional about where they go and why. You’ll hear buzzwords like “Quietcations” or “Readaways,” but the idea is simple: choose trips that fit your life, not just your social feed.
“People are just increasingly wanting to find hidden gems, places that aren’t going to be completely overridden by tourists during the summertime,” said Christie Hudson of Expedia.
Expedia and the flight deal site Going expect more travel to Asia this year.
“Not just to Tokyo, Tokyo’s definitely high on the list, but places like Seoul, Taipei, Bangkok,” Nastro said.
From Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, travelers can fly nonstop to Seoul and Taipei, along with Tokyo, Hong Kong, Shanghai and Doha — giving North Texas travelers more long-haul options.
Climate is also shaping decisions. After last year’s flooding, wildfires and extreme heat, some Americans are choosing cooler destinations.
“We’re seeing a lot of growth in Scandinavia, the fjords, the Baltics because it’s cooler and it’s less overrun with tourists,” said Jack Ezon of Embark Beyond Travel.
For winter breaks, Ezon says skiing in Europe can actually be cheaper than skiing in the United States.
“It’s about $50 to $60 a day to ski instead of $350 a day here,” he said.
And what you save on daily costs might cover your flights there.
At the airport, TSA is expanding its TSA PreCheck Touchless ID, to 65 airports this spring. The program uses facial recognition instead of a physical ID. The TSA expansion is prioritizing 2026 World Cup Host Cities because of the mass of travelers expected over the summer.
The program is not mandatory — customers must opt in when checking in online for a flight or on their airline account profiles.
“The first time I used it, I went straight through, didn’t even have a conversation with an agent because that’s how seamless it is and how automatic it is,” Nastro said.
Experts say deals are still out there, especially if you book early and travel in late spring or fall. Setting price alerts can help you track fares — even after you book.
“If the price drops, call the airline. They issue a credit for the difference, and then you can use it for future flights,” Nastro said.
