Chongqing - Overseas buyers seeking Chinese suppliers met directly with factories at the first Chongqing Sourcing Fair, which opened on October 20 in Liangjiang New Area.

Covering motorcycles and auto parts, consumer electronics, general machinery and light industrial goods, the event drew more than 300 participants, including buyers, suppliers from Chongqing and other provinces, trade organizations and freight forwarders.

Zeng Huacheng, deputy director general of the Trade Development Bureau of the Ministry of Commerce, said Chongqing has become western China's advanced manufacturing center, an international transport hub and a gateway, with rising commercial influence.

He said the fair draws on the industrial belts of the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle and especially showcases battery, hybrid and clean energy products.

Chongqing’s manufacturing base helps explain its appeal to overseas buyers: it produces more than a third of China’s motorcycles and one in three laptops sold worldwide, leading global laptop production for 13 consecutive years.

The city’s imports and exports totaled 658.77 billion yuan (about 98.5 billion U.S. dollars) in the first eight months of 2026, with growth ranking among the top five nationally, according to Zuo Yang, deputy director of the Chongqing Municipal Commission of Commerce.

For overseas motorcycle buyers, performance on the road matters as much as production scale. Zhang Yimin, chairwoman of Chongqing Zhiyan Power Manufacturing, said a model developed by her company traveled 14,000 km across seven South American countries in 45 days. Chongqing produced nearly 7.9 million motorcycles in 2025 and exported 6.1 million, with exports up 21.9 percent.

Latin America was well represented at the fair. Santiago Toledo, commercial counsellor at the Embassy of Mexico in China, said trade with Chongqing topped 19.2 billion yuan in 2025, making Mexico the city's biggest partner in the region.

Mexico alone buys 6,000 containers of Chongqing motorcycles a year. Mexico is still looking for manufacturers, partners and investors in auto parts, consumer electronics and light industrial goods.

Jaime Noriega, president of the Chancay Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Tourism, came for more than just purchases: "We are here to build lasting partnerships with Chongqing companies." Noriega credited Chongqing's connection to both the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor and the China-Europe Railway Express freight trains.

Building the shipping network for goods is another key focus of this fair. Chongqing holds national logistics hub designations of all five types: water port, dry port, airport, production service, and business service. The first China-Europe freight train departed in 2011, and the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor now reaches 596 ports in 128 countries and regions.

Air freight handles urgent shipments, block trains run to Europe, and the Yangtze carries volume to the sea. The latest Pinglu Canal also adds a new ocean entry for southbound exports.

At the fair, DHL Group and Chongqing Bonded Port Development and Management Group signed a strategic agreement on air, port and rail hubs, a cross-border logistics platform and a compliance center, and a push for a DHL settlement branch inside the Lianglu Guoyuan Port Comprehensive Bonded Zone.

As part of the fair, international buyers also toured factories, including local EV maker Seres, Senci Electric Machinery, and local motorcycle company Loncin, among others.

The Chongqing Municipal Commission of Commerce said it will track the fair's outcomes, push orders toward signing, and run it as a standing platform going forward.
