A former Fort Bend County constable lieutenant has been indicted for alleged theft and tampering, according to the Fort Bend County District Attorney's Office.

Eric Lister was arrested on Sept. 29 after being indicted on Sept. 8 for theft of property valued at between $2,500 and $30,000 and for tampering with government records, according to court records.

Lister is accused of stealing more than $2,500 from the constable's office on March 15. He is also accused of writing fake traffic warnings for traffic stops that never occurred, according to the indictment.

In a statement to Houston Public Media, the Fort Bend County DA's office said he posted bond on Sept. 30. The DA's office did not provide further details regarding the case, citing an ongoing investigation.

A spokesperson for the Fort Bend County Precinct 3 Constable’s Office said via a written statement to Houston Public Media that Lister’s employment with the department had been terminated.

“Lt. Lister was immediately placed on administrative leave when concerns about his conduct were identified,” the spokesperson said. “His employment with the Precinct 3 Constable’s Office has since been terminated.”

In March, Lister ran in the Democratic primary for Fort Bend County Treasurer and placed fourth among five candidates.

Lister's attorney did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
