29 September 2026 It's Lightroom update time again. There are some minor features, as well as bug fixes, new cameras and lenses.

This one is weird. I do theatre photography and occasionally use another photographer to cover shows when I am not available. Let's call him my understudy. My understudy photographs the show, does his edits to the images, converts the images to DNG and uploads them to my server. I then import the images into LR to make some final checks before providing selected images to the client.
This system has worked well over the years, but recently I noticed some of my understudy's images appeared to be underexposed. On investigation, I have discovered that is NOT the case on my understudy's installation of LR. What's more puzzling is that if I open an affected DNG file in Adobe Camera Raw in Photoshop on my machine, the image renders correctly. But import the same file into LR it is dark. Both LR and ACR are showing the same edit settings, which are the edit settings applied by my understudy. Not only that if I export the image the exported image is underexposed, but if my understudy exports it - using the same export preset - it is correctly exposed. From this I believe the problem is with my LR installation as the image renders as intended in Photoshop ACR.
I have attached two screenshots showing how one image appears differently between my Lightroom and my ACR/Photoshop. Any thoughts?
ACR Rendering....
Lightroom Rendering:
It would probably help to see the develop panel for the LrC image. One thought would be to compare the default develop settings between your and your understudy's LrC Preferences>Presets tab. Are they different?
Is Adaptive Color being applied in your local Lightroom instance? Do you need to update the AI processes on the local version?

I increased the size and LrC shows Adaptive Color.

The Image showing Adaptive color is not the Local computer Lightroom rendering. It is the ACR rendering.

Thank you, folks for pointing me in the right direction - yes, it appears Adaptive Colour is the culprit. The workaround I have found is to select all images in the Develop module. Auto Sync. Change to Adobe Colour, then change it back to Adaptive Colour. Looks like a LR bug that it is not honouring the setting correctly when the images are imported.
Thanks

Check to see if the AI Edit Status is only indicating it needs updating

No it wasn't showing updates required - I had suspected that pretty early on and even tried clicking it even though it wasn't highlighted.

I'm thinking this might be a bug since the ACR app showed the Adaptive Colour applied.

I misread that. I meant ACR.
