The Meindl Peru Lady GTX boot is an extremely classic model in the brand’s range which ticks the boxes for a long lasting boot. Despite being a leather boot, they didn’t require breaking in and were comfortable on their first day out.

For me, there’s some extra volume around my foot, but I haven’t experienced any rubbing. The ankle cuff is padded all around and lower cut at the back for comfortable descents, with two hooks to adjust tightness. There is also a hook on the tongue to keep it from slipping down through the day. Meindl have used their own Duo-Dur rubber for the sole, which they say is double density to help with shock absorption, although I’m not sure if that is particularly noticeable without wearing a different boot on each foot! It’s grippy enough when it matters, but I wouldn’t be rushing to use it on steeper and rocky terrain due to the lugs over the whole footprint of the boot. There is a small heel brake for descents, and the lugs work well on paths and tracks, as well as in bogs.
The upper is waxed nubuck, which is soft and supple, and fairly waterproof on its own. There is also a Goretex lining to support the leather for the wettest of conditions. As with all leather boots, they are very hardwearing and durable, so long as they are treated well. These come with an instruction to treat the leather before wearing them out for the first time, and then with gentle drying and regular waxing, they should last for a long time. There isn’t any kind of a rand around the outside of the boot, so if you are in rocky terrain, you may notice some marks and nicks in the leather over time.
A really solid boot which should last you for a long time, reflected in both the price and the weight.
How we tested
Kirsty has UK size 5 feet with a wide forefoot and narrower heel. These boots have been tested across the Scottish Highlands in a range of weather conditions, including the heatwaves! Weights were measured by Kirsty on her scales.
