Ian Ladyman: Why this is a huge step in the right direction for Arsenal

A draw in Bavaria will not stand out in the list of achievements carved out stubbornly by Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal as he has taken them from nowhere to somewhere over the last six years or so. But the Arsenal manager will know what this night means, nevertheless.

This is a season that must see Arsenal break fresh ground if they are to become the team we all feel they can be. They know they have questions to answer and they know what they are. They are about style and the ability to bring about repeat success. They are about building a domestic dynasty and winning things in Europe.

Ian Ladyman analysis Arsenals' performance after a night they went to one of the best teams in the world and earned a point.

WATCH: Declan Rice's late equaliser

This was a great team move by Arsenal and they deserved the equaliser.

The full Champions League table

Aston Villa end matchweek three in second place in the table after wins against Club Brugge, Fenerbahce, and Viking.

Liverpool are hot on their heels with a perfect record as well, having beaten Atletico Madrid, Como, and Villarreal.

Arsenal are seventh, Manchester City are just outside the automatic progression spots in tenth, and Manchester United's 4-1 humbling by Como means they sit 20th with three points in three games - not exactly secure in the play-off spots. It must be strange for them to see Antony absolutely thriving at Real Betis, who are fifth with a perfect record.

There are five matchrounds to go.

Mikel Arteta: Arsenal 'concerned' about Saka

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has been speaking to TNT Sports:

'Wow, what a game. That's one of the highest levels we played, the level of the opposition, what teh game required, our level, two teams that wanted to press constantly and attack. It was a fascinating game.

When asked about Eze: 'We started the game incredibly well. We lost Bukayo and had to adapt.

On Saka's seeming thigh injury: 'They are a bit concerned. A player that has to com off is never good news but we'll see.'

WATCH: Declan RIce's glowing words on Harry Kane

How wholesome.

Harry Kane arguably 'the greatest English player ever'

Harry Kane has been receiving glowing reviews from the TNT Sports pundits after his range of passing tonight. He's on seven assists for the season.

'Harry is getting better. This was a masterclass,' says Owen Hargreaves.

'He's arguably the best English player there's ever been,' says Steven Gerrard.

'Kevin Keegan won two Ballon d'Ors here and he's treading in the same footsteps as him. His passing was ridiculous, laser-like, like a golfer,' says Martin Keown.

Declan Rice: 'This shows our mentality'

Arsenal equaliser Declan Rice has been speaking to TNT Sports:

'I'm so happy (to score). Playing against teams that are man to man, you have to apply certain principles. I lost my marker and am so happy.

'He's been making such a good impact off the bench (Gyokeres) and set me up for the goal. It was such a tough game for 95 minutes. You're constantly thinking about where you can move when they follow you. We could've had more. Neuer made some great saves and so did David (Raya).

'It's the mentality of this team, what the manager has drilled into us for the last two days - we're not coming here to sit, we're coming here to go man-to-man. To play with that manner and enthusiasm and athleticism was really good.'

Harry Kane: 'We're a bit disappointed'

Bayern Munich goalscorer Harry Kane has been speaking to TNT Sports:

'A little bit of disappointment. Looking at the full 90 a draw is probably a good result. We had a couple of moments where we could've killed the game. We can't be too disappointed so we take the point and move on.

'I'm proud of the way I executed the penalty but I wouldn't say it was without a doubt! Nice to put that one away.

'We have to believe, for sure. We're a strong enough team (to win the CL). We were missing some key players tonight. A lot of games are coming thick and fast.'

A missed opportunity for Arsenal?

'Bayern have got six or seven starters oout of the team, Arsenal were full strength and would have been rubbing their hands together,' says Steven Gerrard on TNT Sports.
