Fifth-year kicker Ethan Moczulski’s three field goals in Illinois’ (3-3, 1-2) 38-37 win over Michigan State (2-4, 0-3) Saturday earned him Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week.
Moczulski went a perfect 6-for-6 on the day, nailing 3 extra points in addition to his field goals. His overtime PAT following fifth-year wide receiver Hudson Clement’s touchdown proved to be the difference when the Illini stopped the Spartans on a two-point conversion attempt.
Moczulski drilled a 40-yard field goal on the first drive of the game to give Illinois an early lead. He was also good on attempts from 35 yards in the second quarter and 38 yards in the third.
The three made field goals are a career-best for Moczulski, and he accounted for 12 of Illinois’ 38 points in the win.
Overall, Moczulski is 10-for-12 on field goals this season and a perfect 21-for-21 on extra points. His 10 makes are tied for the 11th-most in the FBS this year.
Moczulski is the first Illini to earn the award since kicker David Olano, who took home the honor in back-to-back weeks last season.
The Illini are on bye this week before returning home next week to take on the Oregon Ducks.
