Hyundai Motor Group announced a $15.5 billion commitment towards a seven-year comprehensive investment strategy for India on Tuesday.

The investment, set to be made between 2026 and 2032, spans manufacturing expansion, development of research and development (R&D) infrastructure, local supplier cultivation for parts localization and future technology innovation.

Hyundai's investment initiative was discussed during a recent meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji and Hyundai Motor Group Executive Chair Euisun Chung.

Hyundai will establish a dedicated investment entity in India to systematically coordinate and execute investments across R&D infrastructure, future technologies and the broader automotive industry ecosystem.

The entity will serve as a platform to identify outstanding local partners, support strategic partnerships and foster collaboration with excellent local suppliers, it said in a regulatory filing.

The automaker plans to expand manufacturing capacity across Hyundai Motor India Limited and Kia India to support volume growth while ensuring localization to meet India’s market demands.

It will also establish a complete R&D system in India with $700 million investment to strengthen technological competitiveness. The centre would assist Hyundai in its vehicle testing track, accelerate next-generation automotive technology development and establish India as a core innovation hub.

Hyundai is also set to strengthen local supply chain and support supplier development in India through strategic investments in regional partners, which will enhance parts localization, identify excellent local suppliers and build a stable, resilient supply-chain ecosystem.

As Hyundai aims to lead India's future mobility ecosystem, it plans to explore opportunities in new business verticals including specialized automotive financing, EV charging infrastructure, and end-of-life vehicle recycling.

With these initiatives, the Korean automaker positions India as a strategic core market for its future growth, emerging market expansion, and next-generation automotive innovation.

“India remains one of Hyundai Motor Group’s most important and strategic markets globally. This investment reaffirms our commitment to India for the next 30 years and beyond. Through this investment, we will create more employment opportunities and work together with our partners and stakeholders to support India’s continued industrial development,” said Euisun Chung, Executive Chair, Hyundai Motor Group.

Hyundai Motor Group currently has an annual production capacity of more than 1.4 million vehicles in India, comprising 824,000 units at Hyundai's Chennai facilities, 170,000 units at its Pune plant and 431,000 units at Kia's Anantapur facility.
