The iconic dungeon crawling board game, HeroQuest, is getting a videogame adaptation. Balor Games and Nomad Games have announced HeroQuest: Digital Edition, which will bring the influential board game to PC in 2027.
The HeroQuest: Digital Edition AnnouncementThe announcement of HeroQuest: Digital Edition happened during The Mix Fall Showcase. Nomad Games will be helming this adaptation, a studio with a respectable history of doing similar digital tabletop adaptations, including Catan, Smash Up, and Fury of Dracula. Their most recent adaptation is 2024's digital adaptation of Talisman: Fifth Edition.
The core of the game remains the same. You venture, either alone or with up to three friends, into a dungeon to destroy the forces of Dread controlled by the sorcerer Zargon, and protect the Realm. The heroes ready for this quest include the powerful Barbarian, the trap-detecting Dwarf, the precise Elf, and the spell-slinging Wizard. If the forces of good are to prevail, you will need to manage this party through tactical turn-based combat and rolling digital dice.
The original HeroQuest board game was released in 1989 by Milton Bradley. It helped provide a self-contained tabletop experience of heroes going through a dungeon, fighting monsters, and getting treasure, popularized by the iconic Dungeons & Dragons. The series was brought back in 2021 with developer Avalon Hill continuing its legacy with beginner-friendly starter sets and new expansions.
Aside from this initial announcement, a vaguely announced Closed Beta playtest, and the history of Nomad Games, little info is available. HeroQuest: Digital Edition will be available on PC some time in 2027. No other information on pricing or potential console ports has been released. Given the developer's past work, which ranges between $12-$29 MSRP, that price may be a much lower bar to entry given recent board game copies can be north of $100.
