Judging by the first data regarding Modern Warfare 4’s early access campaign emerging from Steam, the new Call of Duty chapter has already managed to beat Black Ops 7 even before hitting the market.

Based on information released by the well-known SteamDB portal, we learn that the Call of Duty app reached 108,000 simultaneous PC players in the twenty-four hours following the start of early access to the Modern Warfare 4 campaign, surpassing the recent record of 100,500 players set after the launch of Black Ops 7.

Considering that there’s still a week to go until Modern Warfare 4’s day one release, and that peak player traffic for any Call of Duty video game typically occurs right after the servers for multiplayer PvP modes open, it’s easy to assume a further increase in concurrent player traffic.

The real challenge for Activision will therefore be to surpass the record for concurrent users connected to the Call of Duty PC app on Steam, which was set between late October and early November 2024, with the launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 (approximately 315,300 players).

The fact that MW4 will not be available in the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass catalogs on day one, at least on paper, should favor an increase in the number of players on Steam compared to Black Ops 7 and Black Ops 6 itself, but to have proof of this, we will just have to wait until the launch of the latest chapter of Modern Warfare, scheduled for October 23 on PC, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2.

In other news, Activision believes that the Call of Duty series does not receive the media attention it deserves.
