Our Verdict
Between its class-leading build-quality and exceptional lighting performance, it's hard not to love this thing. It transformed the aesthetics of my desktop space, and if that's for you, I can't recommend it enough.

BenQ has built a strong reputation in the PC market, not just for its wide range of gaming and professional monitors, although largely it is because of those. I’ve been a user of one of their 4K projectors for years now, and I have to say, it’s pretty fantastic. However, did you know they’ve been fiercely dedicated to workspace lighting solutions? I think it’s one of those products I know existed, but never really bothered with, but they’re growing in popularity, and when I saw this absolute beast was available to review, I simply had to see what all the fuss was about.
Today we are looking at the BenQ ScreenBar Max, a dedicated dual monitor desk lamp engineered for PC enthusiasts, gamers, and professionals who run larger desktop setups. While traditional single monitor light bars struggle to cover wider desks or awkward gaps between angled screens, the ScreenBar Max is built specifically to span across dual monitors or larger monitors from a single desk-mounted arm. With its wide lamp head it should deliver even illumination across an entire desktop without causing distracting screen reflections or taking up valuable desk space.
The standout selling point of the ScreenBar Max is its proprietary ASYM-TriZone Light optical design, their words not mine, I don’t know what ASYM-TriZone means either, at least not yet. It uses a high-reflectivity aluminium reflector and a 36-degree shielding angle to cast a focused triangular beam down onto your keyboard and mouse area while keeping light completely off your display panels and out of your eyes. To help reduce eye strain during late-night gaming or long work sessions in dim rooms, the lamp also includes an ambient backlight that illuminates the wall behind your monitors to balance visual contrast. Positioning the light is straightforward thanks to a sturdy desk clamp that supports three distinct height levels and a horizontal sliding rail, allowing you to align the bar neatly above flat, curved, or even mixed vertical and horizontal monitor arrangements. Furthermore, BenQ has integrated a 24 GHz mmWave radar sensor that automatically switches the light on as you sit down at your desk, alongside an ambient light sensor for real-time automatic dimming and an intuitive touch interface directly on the bar for fine-tuning your lighting preferences.
FeaturesThe BenQ ScreenBar Max backs up its ergonomic design with substantial lighting output, as the 85 cm wide lamp head produces a peak central illuminance of 1,400 lux at its maximum 71 cm height, while blanketing a wide 135 cm by 58 cm desktop area with at least 500 lux of even lighting. It uses full-spectrum LEDs with a colour rendering index of Ra 95 or higher and a colour fidelity rating above Rf 95, ensuring accurate colour reproduction across your desk alongside stepless colour temperature adjustments ranging from a warm 2700K up to a cool 6000K. Because of its size and high output, the unit bypasses standard USB power in favour of a dedicated mains power adapter capable of delivering up to 36W, and the entire assembly is constructed from a durable mix of aluminium alloy, zinc alloy, and polycarbonate finished in dark grey.
