A Westbrook woman was charged following a Friday crash with a school bus that had 19 children on board in addition to staff members.

Annemarie Napolitano, 40, of Westbrook, has been charged with operating under the influence, aggravated criminal mischief and violation of conditions of release, the Westbrook Police Department said in a news release Tuesday.

The department said first responders were dispatched to the area of 93 County Road for the crash at about 9:35 a.m. Friday.

Investigators determined that an SUV operated by Napolitano had crossed the center line and crashed into the front driver’s side corner of the Bonny Eagle bus. The SUV then continued traveling and struck the side of the bus and nearly hit another vehicle “before ending up on the side of the road,” the department said.

The 19 children on the bus were between the ages of 4 and 12, and another five staff members were also on board, according to police.

“A few children on the bus complained of pain, and were evaluated by the Westbrook Fire Department, but no children or staff members required transportation to the hospital,” the department stated.
