The NYPD Detectives Endowment Association honored The Post at a Bronx breakfast awards ceremony Wednesday for excellence in Big Apple police reporting.

“That’s our paper, right?” DEA President Scott Munro said at the gathering in Throggs Neck. “That’s the paper that we look at, that’s the paper we get our information out, and we want to honor them today.

“They work with us in law enforcement, which is great,” Munro said. “For the last two years that this board took over, we’ve done a lot of great things out there, getting information out there with them helping us, because it is a story. It is a story about losing detectives, it’s about getting enhancements for people to stay on this job.”

The union chief heralded The Post for its complete coverage of both crime in the five boroughs as well as the challenged faces by New York’s Finest amid staffing shortages and administrative challenges in recent years — and the struggles faced by cops amid lax state criminal justice reforms.

“I know it’s our paper too, because you don’t have to pay for it online,” he added. “Cops won’t pay for it. You gotta pay for the Daily News and all the other papers, of course, the Times.”

On hand to receive the honors were the members of the police bureau of The Post, along with Editor-in-Chief Keith Poole, who accepted the union’s award and was singled out as the driving force behind the company’s excellence in police and crime reporting in the five boroughs and beyond.

“Thank you, Scott and the DEA for representing the interests of detectives keeping the city safe,” Poole said. “Not only do you and your members have to deal with the insanely criminal, but also an increasing number of loudmouths and lawmakers who are pushing what appear to many to be insane criminal justice policies which only make your work harder and more dangerous.”

“I wanted to receive this award on behalf of the New York Post and particularly the crime team,” he said. “So, please give them a round of applause. I often joke that they succeed not because of me, but in spite of me. But without their tireless work, the story of your sacrifice, your dedication, the challenges you face and your professionalism will never be topped.”

The DEA is one of the largest unions representing NYPD officers and brass, with the Police Benevolent Association representing the most members of the department.
