Victor Marx, the Republican nominee for Colorado governor, is facing fresh scrutiny after a resurfaced podcast recording captured him laughing as he described grabbing his wife and slamming her into their front door early in their marriage.
An interview clip now resurfacing online shows Marx during a 2021 appearance on The Protector Nation, where he was discussing martial arts and his relationship with his wife.
Marx said his wife had stopped training in martial arts because she was married to a 'black belt Marine.'
Marx said the comment 'infuriated' him.
He recalled challenging her, 'You can?' before describing what happened next.
'I remember grabbing her, slamming her into our front door,' Marx said.
He described it as a 'decent push' and said his wife hit the door, bent over and began crying.
Marx appeared to laugh while recounting the episode.
Marx rejects abuse accusationsMarx is running against Democratic Attorney General Phil Weiser. Professional political prognosticators have categorized the race as safely Democratic.
In a nearly three-minute video posted to his Facebook account, Marx accused critics of taking his comments out of context and attempting to 'impugn' his character.
He called the accusations 'absolute stupidity' and said he intended to release the full, unedited recording.
In a since-deleted post, Marx wrote he would be posting the full unedited clip, writing, 'I have been accused of abuse based on clips being circulated publicly. I rejected those accusations.'
The newly resurfaced wife account comes amid broader scrutiny of Marx's long history of publicly recounting violent encounters.

In a separate 2020 interview, Marx described losing his temper after his toddler-aged son pushed his sister. Marx said he reacted 'so fast and so disproportionately' that he grabbed the boy and threw him across the room.
He recalled his son hit the bed, bounced off it, then 'kind of hit the wall' before settling in and crying.
Marx has previously described punching a man who he said had abused his daughter, pulling a Marine Corps knife on a psychiatrist and other confrontations involving physical force.
At a 2023 Turning Point USA pastors summit Marx said, 'I feel like God gave me a gift for violence, against a manifestation of evil.'
Marx has additionally made the extraordinary claim that, when he was seven years old, his abusive stepfather forced him to participate in the killing of a man.
He has acknowledged that the childhood killing cannot be independently proven, and no publicly identified victim or criminal case has been established from his account.
The Daily Mail reached out to Marx's campaign for comment.
