Novo India has dropped prices by upto 35 per cent on its growth hormone therapy Norditropin FlexPro for adults and children.

The India-specific price, effective from Thursday , would cover two dose strengths, the company said — with the 10mg device price being slashed 33 per cent from ₹16,836 to ₹11,300; while the 15mg device price was cut by 35 per cent, from ₹25,254 to ₹16,450. This resulted in savings of ₹5,539 and ₹8,802 per pen respectively, it added.

Novo said, the move was aimed at expanding access and affordability to essential therapies for people living with growth hormone deficiency and related conditions across India. Industry-insiders pointed out that less expensive generic versions of the drug were available in the market, from Sun Pharma, Serum Institute and Reliance Lifesciences, however in vial formats.  Novo’s is a pen, more convenient for children, the industry representative said.

Growth hormone deficiency occurs when the pituitary gland does not produce enough growth hormone to support normal growth. The deficiency may be present from birth or may develop later, with causes including genetic or structural abnormalities and damage to the pituitary region; in many children, no specific cause is identified, the company explained.

Norditropin FlexPro is a pre-filled pen designed for children requiring long-term therapy, Novo said, adding that the device is designed to support ease of use and adherence for youngsters and their caregivers managing a long-term treatment journey.
