The American Heart Association, devoted to a world of healthier lives for all, is expanding access to heart health resources through a new Heart Hub at the East Lake Community Resource Center. The Heart Hub provides blood pressure monitoring, health education and connections to care in a trusted community setting, helping residents take control of their health and reduce their risk of heart disease and stroke.
"Across Chattanooga, barriers to heart health remain significant, with more than one in three adults living with high blood pressure," said Layra Navarro-Flores, community impact director for the American Heart Association. "In East Lake alone, our data estimates that nearly 40% of residents have hypertension. That's a staggering number and a reminder that trusted, community-based resources can make a lifesaving difference."
Focused on improving blood pressure control and prevention, the Heart Hub brings health resources directly into the community, making it easier for residents to access information and tools that support healthier living.
"The goal of the Heart Hub is simple but powerful: bring lifesaving information and resources directly to the people who need them," said Tracy Wood, president and chief executive officer, Journey Health Foundation. "We're proud to support efforts that help all residents, including Hispanic and Latino families, access the education and resources they need to take charge of their health."
The East Lake Community Resource Center serves as a trusted neighborhood gathering place where residents can connect with services, programs and support.
"Supporting the American Heart Association in bringing a Heart Hub into this space strengthens our shared commitment to improving access to health resources and creating healthier futures for our residents," said Cedric Henson, administrator of the Department of Community Development, City of Chattanooga.
The Heart Hub at East Lake Community Resource Center is part of the American Heart Association's Screen, Educate and Refer initiative, which provides blood pressure education, monitoring resources and connections to care. The East Lake location joins a growing network of Heart Hubs working to improve health outcomes across Chattanooga and the Tennessee Valley.
During Hispanic Heritage Month, the American Heart Association celebrates the strength, culture and contributions of Hispanic and Latino communities. Supporting healthier lives remains a year-round effort, with ongoing work addressing equitable health and expanding healthcare access to heart and brain health resources for all Americans. Community members can access Spanish-language stroke education and resources at DerrameCerebral.org.
The Heart Hub is located inside the East Lake Community Resource Center and is now available to the public.
