A Georgia man has been arrested after allegedly trafficking and sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl who was on her way to school.

Raymond Sookram, 42, is facing serious charges including aggravated child molestation, trafficking a person for sexual servitude and interference with custody, according to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office.

The disturbing incident unfolded on August 21, when the teenager reportedly missed her bus and set off on foot for school, as per her family who spoke to police.

According to investigators, she was walking when a man driving a truck pulled over and asked whether she needed a ride.

Authorities say the driver eventually lured the girl into the vehicle.

Once she was inside, however, the teenager told investigators that the man drove her to a location in Canton, where she was allegedly sexually assaulted.

The specifics of the exact location in Canton and the assault have not yet been confirmed by police.

The driver then dropped her off near her school, according to police.

The allegations sparked an investigation involving detectives from the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office and its Real Time Intelligence Center.

Investigators were able to turn to the county’s network of automated license plate recognition cameras for a crucial lead.

Using the description of the truck provided by the teenager, authorities identified a vehicle believed to match what she had described.

Detectives then worked to trace the vehicle and eventually identified Sookram as a suspect, according to officials as per CBS.

They executed a search warrant at the Sookram's home on Thursday morning where he was arrested and charged with Aggravated Child Molestation, Trafficking a Person for Sexual Servitude, and Interference with Custody.

The arrest brings a disturbing case to the attention of the community, as investigators continue to pursue the allegations against the 42-year-old.

Sookram remains behind bars at the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center and is being held without bondc, according to Captain Jay Baker.
