Amazon is replacing its Fire tablets with three Alexa Tablets that run Android with full access to the Google Play Store, the company announced. The Alexa Tablet 8, Alexa Tablet 11, and Alexa Tablet 12 Pro are priced from $229.99 to $549.99 and go on sale on October 14, 2026, in the US, Mexico, and Canada.
Earlier Amazon tablets ran Fire OS and shipped with Amazon's own app store, so apps such as YouTube, Netflix, and Gmail needed sideloading workarounds.
The new models install those apps straight from Google Play at launch. An Amazon spokesperson described the devices as "an all-new product line with new hardware and a new OS, rather than a rebrand of Fire Tablets."
Amazon says it plans to keep supporting existing Fire tablets, but production of new Fire units has ended.
Alexa Tablet 8, 11, and 12 Pro Prices and SpecificationsThe company claims the 12 Pro delivers nearly three times the processing performance and nine times the graphics performance of any tablet Amazon has shipped before. An Alexa Tablet Pro Pen and Pro Keyboard are sold as accessories for the 12 Pro.
Alexa+ is built into all three models. Users can say "Alexa" or tap an Ask Alexa button, and On-Screen Intelligence lets the assistant look at what is displayed; Amazon's example is asking which hikes in a list of trails suit the user best. Opening the Kindle app silences notifications, reduces blue light, and allows battery life of up to 20 hours.
What Fire Tablet Buyers Should ConsiderAnyone choosing between a remaining Fire tablet and the new lineup should weigh three points from Amazon's announcement:
Amazon also announced Amazon Kids Tablets in 8.7-inch and 11-inch sizes, bundled with a protective case and a year of Amazon Kids+. Both lineups launch in the UK, Germany, France, Italy, and Spain on October 19, and the Kids Tablets also reach Japan on October 14. Amazon has not announced release dates for other markets.
