NBA star Klay Thompson is reportedly set to sign with a new team after parting ways with the Dallas Mavericks.

The 36-year-old, whose 2025 NBA season was overshadowed by his split from rapper Megan Thee Stallion, became an unrestricted free agent after the Mavericks reached a buyout agreement with the sharpshooter on Friday.

Now, Thompson is expected to sign with the Miami Heat after he clears waivers, according to ESPN's Shams Charania.

Dallas and Thompson are said to have navigated the buyout from his $17.5 million contract, which was set to expire next year, after he expressed his desire to play for a championship contender.

The four-time NBA champion is now set to a Heat team that added one of the league's greatest shooters to their team this summer.

In June, the Heat acquired Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bobby Portis from the Milwaukee Bucks in exchange for Tyler Herro, Kel'el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kasparas Jakucionis and three first-round picks.

Miami have now made yet another aggressive move as they look to strengthen their roster with an eye on a championship title.

Thompson is said to have been their top free agent priority this summer to surround Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo.

His offseason moves comes around four months on from his high-profile, messy breakup from Megan Thee Stallion.

The rapper shared a blistering post to her Instagram story in April, signaling an end to her time with the veteran NBA star.

Taking to her Instagram, she wrote: 'Cheating, had me around your whole family playing house... got 'cold feet' Holding you down through all your HORRIBLE mood swings and treatment towards me during your basketball season now you don't know if you can be 'monogamous'???? b**** I need a REAL break after this one .. bye yall'.

The hitmaker also provided an exclusive statement to The Daily Mail, which read: 'I've made the decision to end my relationship with Klay.

'Trust, fidelity and respect are non-negotiable for me in a relationship, and when those values are compromised, there's no real path forward. I'm taking this time to prioritize myself and move ahead with peace and clarity.'

Thompson and Megan officially announced their relationship to the public last summer and had since been one of America's most identifiable celebrity couples.

The couple first sparked romance rumors when he was spotted in the background of one of her sizzling vacation snaps, before they went Instagram official shortly after.

A recent Instagram post of hers indicated that she and Thompson were moving in together. In October, the Grammy Award winner shared an Instagram 'dump' to give her followers a glimpse of her life, including one photo that truly set tongues wagging.

The picture in question showed two hands coming together to form a heart with a pair of keys dangling in between. In the background a white house with floor-to-ceiling windows could be seen.

Many of the performer's fans claimed that one of the hands belonged to Thompson, leading some to believe that the couple had taken their romance to the next level and moved in together.
