A total of 35 women completed a 20-day free jute bag-making training programme organised by the Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII), Ahmedabad, under the SANKALP project at Ezhil Nagar in Tiruverumbur on Thursday.

The programme aimed to promote women’s entrepreneurship and create opportunities for sustainable livelihoods through skill development.

Participants were trained in making a variety of eco-friendly jute products, including handbags, and carriers for grocery, lunch boxes, water bottles, and gifts.

In his address, K. Susil Kumar, chief executive officer, Centre of Entrepreneurship and Incubation, National Institute of Technology-Tiruchi, highlighted the benefits of entrepreneurship, the opportunities available to aspiring entrepreneurs, and the potential of self-employment to improve livelihoods.

In addition to technical training, the participants received guidance on entrepreneurship development, government subsidy schemes, bank credit facilities, product marketing, participation in exhibitions, exposure visits, Udyam registration, and obtaining artisan identity cards.

The trained women would receive continued guidance and follow-up support through EDII’s WeAct platform, along with assistance in accessing relevant support schemes to develop their businesses.
