Recently, Green Bay Packers linebacker Micah Parsons chimed in on Sunday’s New York Giants vs. Washington Commanders game, which ended in a tie after Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels’ “disgusting” performance late in overtime.
The former Dallas Cowboy took to his podcast, The Edge with Micah Parsons, and aired out Daniels for his “inexcusable” play in Sunday’s late-game action. Parsons is also friends with Commanders head coach Dan Quinn, as Quinn was the Cowboys’ defensive coordinator from 2021-2023.
“Jayden Daniels probably cost my man Dan Quinn his job, to be honest with you,” Parsons said on the podcast. “To be honest with you. And, like, I’m a big Jayden Daniels fan. But the reality is, he probably cost a lot of people their jobs this past weekend.”
After a fumble by Giants running back Cam Skattebo, Washington reached the Giants’ 24-yard line with 50 seconds remaining in overtime and the score tied. The Commanders did not snap the ball for the next play until 13 seconds remained, trying to run the clock down enough to kick the final field goal and win. Daniels was tackled on the play, and with no timeouts left, the Commanders ran out of time to spike the ball, stop the clock, and set up a field goal attempt. The game ended in a 27-27 tie, with fans and onlookers shocked at what transpired.
Parsons was in awe of the Commanders’ catastrophe, as players are trained for that very specific late-game moment to a point where it’s “programmed.”
“I’m a defensive player, and this [expletive]’s programmed to me. I even know what to do in those situations,” Parsons said. Daniels has seen scenarios like Sunday’s, as Parsons noted: “This is your third year. You’ve been to the NFC Championship Game. You’ve been in big moments before.”
“That is disgusting, bro,” Parsons reacted after his co-host pointed out the lack of urgency from Commanders players to get back to the line and secure the game.
“This is your job to be prepared to understand the game and understand situations. That’s in your job profile,” Parsons continued. “And you’re telling me, ‘Oh, we’re going to want to pay this guy eventually $60 million?’ This cannot happen.”
After film and post-game conferences were analyzed, Parsons was disappointed by the lack of accountability from Daniels and the Commanders.
“I woulda liked to see more accountability myself; listen, I’m a player. I’m a big JD5 fan, but that’s inexcusable, bro,” Parsons added. “The lack of urgency, that’s something that I woulda had to have said something in the locker room; I woulda had to have talked to him. That’s not okay.”
Washington sits fourth in the NFC East at 1-3-1, and a turnaround from quarterback Jayden Daniels is much needed. But with injury looming and potential coaching alterations, how much can the Commanders squeeze out of the rest of the season?
