The 2026 MLB postseason field has been trimmed from 12 to eight teams as the playoffs move to the Division Series. The four clubs that emerged from the Wild Card Series were the American League’s No. 4 New York Yankees and No. 6 Chicago White Sox, along with the National League’s No. 3 Atlanta Braves and No. 4 San Diego Padres.
Three of those clubs recorded two-game sweeps — New York dominated the rival No. 5 Boston Red Sox, Chicago rolled past the No. 4 Houston Astros for its first postseason series victory in over two decades, and San Diego took down the No. 5 Chicago Cubs. Atlanta, meanwhile, won a decisive Game 3 over the No. 6 Philadelphia Phillies.
The Division Series will see the introduction of the top two seeds in each league — the AL’s No. 1 Tampa Bay Rays and No. 2 Cleveland Guardians, and the NL’s No. 1 Milwaukee Brewers and two-time defending World Series champion No. 2 Los Angeles Dodgers. Those clubs received byes past the Wild Card Series.
