Cameras have officially stopped rolling on season 2 of Netflix’s Little House on the Prairie. Netflix has also unveiled a raft of new cast members who’ll help bring Walnut Grove to life when the series returns, presumably in 2027.

As a reminder, Netflix renewed the series for a second season back in March, months ahead of the show’s July 9th premiere. When we first reported on season 2’s production schedule, filming was eyed to begin in June 2026 and run through to November. That means the production appears to have wrapped a few weeks ahead of schedule.

Season 2 adapts the next book in Laura Ingalls Wilder’s series, On the Banks of Plum Creek, which sees the Ingalls family settle near Walnut Grove, Minnesota.

Showrunner and executive producer Rebecca Sonnenshine said of the wrap:

All of our incredible cast additions this year have made this season in Walnut Grove absolutely magical. I’m so grateful to our hard-working crew, who worked tirelessly to make this new chapter come to life, and our partners at CBS Studios, Anonymous Content, and Netflix for being our unwavering champions.

Most of the season 1 core cast returns, including Alice Halsey as Laura Ingalls, Luke Bracey as Charles Ingalls, Crosby Fitzgerald as Caroline Ingalls, Skywalker Hughes as Mary Ingalls, and Warren Christie as John Edwards.

Netflix had already announced three big additions for season 2. Willa Dunn will play the iconic Nellie Oleson, Charlotte Sullivan plays her mother, Margaret Oleson, and Rachelle Lefevre plays schoolteacher Eva Beadle.

Joining them are the following new cast members:

• David Wronko as Thomas Perry: the whip-smart son of Walnut Grove’s wealthiest family, with plans to attend college in New York. (Recurring Guest Star)
• Erik Athavale (American Hostage) as Reverend Alden: the warm and progressive minister of Walnut Grove’s Congregational church. (Recurring Guest Star)
• Elyse Levesque (Ready or Not, Orphan Black) as Emma Perry: a refined but charitable woman, born into wealth, who secretly calls the shots in her husband’s business. (Recurring Guest Star)
• Graham Harvey (The Night Agent) as Johnny Johnson: a gentle farm boy and the son of Norwegian immigrants, who has never been to school. (Recurring Guest Star)
• Jacinta Forest Lewitski as Hannah Walker: Lena Nelson’s dry-humored farm manager, an amateur pianist, and first base for the Prairie Clippers. (Recurring Guest Star)
• Lyla Porter-Follows (High Potential) as Mrs. Lena Nelson: an outspoken young widow running the farm her husband left behind. (Recurring Guest Star)
• Martin Roach (Cross) as Simon Hughes: a Civil War veteran and widower who owns the blacksmith shop. (Recurring Guest Star)
• Paul Greene (When Calls the Heart) as Luther Perry: Walnut Grove’s unpopular grain buyer and town banker, who is happy to put profits ahead of the farmers. (Recurring Guest Star)
• Ryan Northcott (Anna Pigeon) as William Oleson: the even-tempered owner of the nicest store in town, and Nellie’s doting father. (Recurring Guest Star)
• Scott Porter (Ginny & Georgia, Friday Night Lights, Hart of Dixie) as Peter Ingalls: Charles’s responsible older brother. (Guest Star)

Fans of the original NBC series will recognize plenty of those names. Nels, Harriet, and Nellie Oleson were among the most beloved (and loathed) characters of the 1974 show, though the reboot is clearly giving William Oleson a fresh first name.

Netflix has not yet announced a release date. However, season 1 arrived around nine months after its own production wrapped. With season 2 now in the can, a summer 2027 release remains our best bet, most likely in July or August.
