A Manchester man was arrested on Tuesday and is accused of impersonating a police officer in a privately owned vehicle, according to Connecticut State Police.
At around 12:57 a.m., state police saw a black Ford Explorer Police Interceptor with red flashing lights traveling southbound near Exit 27 on I-91 in Hartford. When officers checked the registration, they learned the car was privately owned and not associated with a law enforcement agency.
State police said they pulled the car over and saw the 37-year-old driver, Luis Rodriguez-Rodriguez, in the driver’s seat wearing a chest camera, with a body camera, OC spray, and handcuffs attached. Rodriguez-Rodriguez told officers that he was not a member of law enforcement.
When officers searched Rodriguez-Rodriguez’s vehicle, they found a baton, more handcuffs, and OC spray, which were all seized as evidence. They also learned that the vehicle had a functioning siren, according to state police.
Rodriguez-Rodriguez was arrested and charged with impersonation of a police officer and illegal possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle because of the baton, state police said.
He was released on a $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Hartford Superior Court on Oct. 20.
