For some reason I am not able to see the site being lined at the start of this discussion, but nevertheless, I think that there is a stronger argument to be made than simply liking the old show better.
I tend to not consider productions made after Nemesis canon, but I think I have something to add here.
The producers could have made everything since 2009 look more like TOS and yet still "updated" details for a modern audience. Instead, many overall looks were changed that really did not need to be changed.
It is just simply not true that versions of the Enterprise, made since 2009, "had to" look different from TOS as much as they did, in order for the show to look "legitimate" to a present-day audience. The fact is that drastic changes to the "visual look" of the show were possibly done because people in charge liked the way the new version looked, not because the general design of the older versions is not up to today's standards.
Whenever a choice seems to have been made to update the look while also trying to match the original, it seems to have succeeded...so the idea that things "have to" look different is not really an excuse. A great example of what I mean is the male uniform from 2009. Overall, it looked like a TOS uniform, but the added details of the collar of the undershirt showing through, and the Starfleet Emblem sewn-in detail pattern, added details for the big screen, but did not really contradict the TOS look. One could imagine this being how the 2260's TOS uniforms "always looked," just now shown in greater detail.
(With the movie set in the 2250's, I wish they had gone for a look more like the sweaters from the pilots, and with a greener color for command instead of yellow, though.)
There seems to be a lot of debate about wether the TOS-era "looks good enough for present-day TV they way it is," or if it "needs changed." Points like the uniform situation I describe seem to prove that the TOS-era look can be "updated" without "changing it."
There are two sides that this argument often seems to take, and that misses the fact that a prop, unfiorm, character, etc. can "look like" they did in TOS and still be "updated" for today's viewers. No doubt some choices were made by contributors to the show that were intended to "update" TOS that changed it too much for my taste inadvertently; however, in some cases, I think things were changed too much without regard for following the original as closely as it arugably should have been.
