This IDC study analyzes the trends impacting the penetration of commercial, open source, and custom-built applications and customizability preferences for these applications at the enterprise workload level. This includes a regional-level analysis of these different factors to examine what they may say about regional IT preferences and needs. These insights were provided by respondents to a worldwide web-based survey on enterprise infrastructure workloads completed in September 2025.
