Captain America may have saved the world countless times, but Chris Evans didn't manage to rescue his Hollywood Hills mansion from a big price cut. The Marvel movie star has finally sold his lavish Los Angeles hideaway for $5.38 million after more than a year on and off the market – pocketing more than $1 million less than the property's already-reduced asking price. And compared with the $6.99 million price tag Evans originally hoped to get, the sale represents a hefty $1.61 million haircut. The deal brings an end to the actor's more than decade-long California chapter as he prepares to spend more time back on the East Coast with his wife, Alba Baptista, and their daughter, Alma. But while Evans may have taken a hit on the sale, his former home is hardly a hard-luck story: he bought the property for around $3.52 million in 2013, meaning he is still walking away with a sizeable profit. The 45-year-old first put the property on the market in May 2025 for $6.99 million, but after it lingered without finding a buyer, he pulled the listing in November.

Evans sells at a million-dollar discount

The property returned to the market in June with a $600,000 price cut, bringing the asking price down to $6.39 million, alongside a fresh set of photographs showing off its impressive interiors and secluded grounds. The final $5.38 million sale price means Evans accepted another $1.01 million discount from that reduced asking price. Evans, who was born and raised in Sudbury, Massachusetts, had previously explained that his decision to sell was less about falling out of love with Los Angeles and more about wanting to spend time closer to home.

Evans leaves Hollywood

'The West Coast is beautiful, and I've spent more than a decade in this home enjoying Los Angeles,' he told Realtor.com. 'But I've decided to spend more time on the East Coast. It feels like the right moment to pass this beautiful property to the next owner.' The move will see Evans spend more time on the East Coast with his wife, Portuguese actress Alba Baptista, and their daughter, Alma. His former California home certainly offered plenty to keep a Hollywood star happy. The 1940s-era property sits behind gates on a secluded cul-de-sac in the Hollywood Hills, offering sweeping views over the Los Angeles skyline.

Stunning views in a historic enclave

Listing agent Scott Moore of Christie's International Real Estate Southern California described the location as one of the area's most exclusive pockets, where residents can enjoy privacy and quiet while remaining just minutes from the heart of Los Angeles. The property is also surrounded by historically significant architecture, including a neighboring residence designed by celebrated modernist architect Richard Neutra. But it was the views that Evans himself loved most. 'Hands down, the views,' he said. 'From inside and outside the views from this home are stunning and inspiring.'

Resort-style oasis with lush gardens

The hillside property has been extensively landscaped and engineered to create multiple outdoor living areas, with mature coral trees, lush gardens, vine-covered terraces, stone pathways and secluded sitting areas. There is also a resort-style swimming pool and spa, plus a separate seating area with its own water feature. Inside, the home combines contemporary finishes with warmer architectural details, including vaulted open-beam ceilings, vast picture windows and a dramatic fireplace anchoring the main living space.

Chef’s kitchen and gym fit for a superhero

The living room flows into a generous dining area with a wet bar, while the chef's kitchen comes equipped with a 60-inch Wolf range beneath a custom 10-foot hood, Sub-Zero refrigeration, dual Thermador dishwashers, a wine refrigerator and a built-in Miele coffee maker. There is even a detached guest house, complete with its own bedroom, kitchen and office. It also contains a private gym – a particularly fitting feature given that Evans reportedly used it while preparing for his decade-long run as Captain America. Evans made his debut as Steve Rogers in 2011's Captain America: The First Avenger and went on to appear in 11 Marvel Cinematic Universe films before passing the famous shield to Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson.

Evans shifts focus from Hollywood fame

The property was purchased just two years after his first appearance as Captain America and became one of the actor's key homes during his years as one of Hollywood's biggest stars. But Evans has increasingly made clear that he wants to slow down. In a 2023 interview with GQ, he said he hoped to 'maybe act a little bit less' during the rest of his life, although he stopped short of ruling out a return to the Marvel universe.

Evans joins Hollywood exodus from LA

'I'll never say never, just because it was such a wonderful experience,' he said. The decision to leave California also puts Evans among a growing number of Hollywood stars reassessing life in Los Angeles. Dennis Quaid, Mark Wahlberg, Matthew McConaughey, Glenn Powell and Rachel McAdams are among those who have moved away from the Golden State or established bases elsewhere. For Evans, however, the move appears to be something of a return to his roots. After more than a decade in the Hollywood Hills, the Massachusetts native is closing the door on his Los Angeles home – even if it took a $1 million-plus price cut to finally do it.
