An open meeting with an outstanding alumnus of the Chelyabinsk Polytechnic Institute (former name of SUSU), Mikhail Grishankov, has been held at South Ural State University. He is a Russian statesman, political figure, and a top-manager with many years of experience in the security sector, legislation, and big business.
This open meeting was held in a form of an active dialogue. Mikhail Grishankov shared his story of professional development: his studying at the Chelyabinsk Polytechnic Institute, service in the Committee for State Security and the Federal Security Service, his work in the State Duma and the current stage in his career at AO “Caspian Pipeline Consortium R” company.
“It is a great honour for me to hold this meeting in my alma mater today. I've always been proud that I graduated from the Instrumentation Engineering Faculty of the Chelyabinsk Polytechnic Institute, one of our country’s best universities. My student years were a very important stage in my life,” noted Mikhail Grishankov.
Among the meeting attendees were SUSU students of various majors, as well as students of the Law and Aerospace Engineering classes, established by our university jointly with the Educational Centre No.5. For the school pupils and students, this meeting became a chance to directly ask questions of a person, who has fulfilled himself in different professional areas.
There were quite many questions on behalf of the audience. The students were interested to learn more about the specifics of serving in the security and of working as a deputy, about the career decisions, professional challenges, as well as the life principles, which Mikhail Grishankov had been guided by at different stages of his life path.
Through his personal example, Mikhail Grishankov demonstrated that career trajectory does not always go according to plan. Engineering education could be a starting point for achieving your most ambitious goals, while your professional experience, knowledge, and willingness to develop will help you master new fields of activity.
“The main thing is, don’t waste your time: set goals for yourselves and keep moving forward. Studying at SUSU is a unique opportunity to gain knowledge since the teaching staff are very highly qualified here. Ask as many questions as you can, study different fields, and expand your competences,” Mikhail Grishankov addressed the younger generation with these parting words.
This meeting is part of our university’s work on young people’s patriotic education and development of their civil attitude. Such open dialogues help students see what personal experience and values stand behind the professional achievements of a person and guide him/her through his/her life.
