Cyclists will gather at the Montclair Bikery, 148 Valley Road, before setting out on a 15-mile route through the area. Riders will stop at Kings supermarket in Montclair to purchase frozen turkeys, which will then be delivered by bicycle and van to the Human Needs Food Pantry.
The pantry distributes more than 1,800 turkeys annually, along with food for complete Thanksgiving meals, to its clients during the week of the holiday.
Registration begins at 9 a.m. at the Montclair Bikery, with the ride starting at 10 a.m. Participants are encouraged to register in advance through BikeReg. Riders must be at least 18 years old, or 13 or older when accompanied by a parent. Participants are asked to contribute $22 toward the purchase of a turkey.
Last year, more than 350 cyclists participated and donated 1,400 turkeys, according to organizers. This year, the Bikery hopes to draw 400 riders. Over the past 13 years, the Turkey Ride has collected more than 7,500 turkeys and raised more than $340,000 for the pantry.
“It’s always inspiring to me to see so many people who are willing to give of themselves and share in such a fun event,” Montclair Bikery owner Dave Adornato said. “That helps motivate us to give back to this great community.”
The event comes as the Human Needs Food Pantry reports serving nearly 4,000 clients a month. The pantry says it has distributed more than 800,000 pounds of food so far in 2026, at a cost of more than $600,000.
“The annual Turkey Ride has become a mainstay for the Thanksgiving holiday here at The Pantry, helping ensure that we have enough turkeys for all of the people we serve,” Executive Director Mike Bruno said. “We are serving more people than ever before in our history and are only able to keep up with the holiday needs because of this event.”
Can’t make the ride? Support the pantry with an online donation. Bulk turkey orders also can be arranged by contacting the Human Needs Food Pantry in advance.
