Nearly 200 people have been placed under medical observation in Russia’s Irkutsk region following the death of an anti-plague institute employee from a suspected or possible case of plague, according to Russian officials and local media reports.
Local media reported that 189 people were being monitored after an employee at an anti-plague research institute in Irkutsk became ill. Alexei Tsydenov, head of neighboring Buryatia, said on social media that the woman had died from an unspecified form of plague.
