Two days after losing standout center/forward Ezi Magbegor to a season-ending knee injury, the Storm announced Friday that wing Katie Lou Samuelson underwent arthroscopic left knee surgery that will force her to miss the remainder of the season.

It’s her second knee injury since rejoining the team last year.

On May 1, 2025, Samuelson tore her right ACL during training camp and missed the season.

She sat out the first six games this year while recovering from the knee injury and made her season debut May 24.

Samuelson appeared in 32 games and made one start while averaging 4.4 points and 2.1 rebounds. She shot 40.5% from the field and 32.1% on three-pointers, and scored a season-high 11 points against the Chicago Sky on July 15.

Since being taken No. 4 overall in the 2019 WNBA draft by Chicago, Samuelson, the former Connecticut Huskies star, has played with five different teams in six seasons.

In 2021, the Storm acquired her and a 2022 second-round pick in a deal that sent the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 draft to the Dallas Wings.

In 2022, Seattle traded Samuelson and the No. 9 pick in the 2022 draft to the Los Angeles Sparks for forward Gabby Williams.

After sitting out in 2023 because of maternity leave and playing for the Indiana Fever in 2024, Samuelson rejoined the Storm last year and she suffered a right ACL injury before the season.

In April, the 29-year-old Samuelson re-signed with the Storm on a guaranteed two-year deal worth $840,000.

Samuelson’s injury is the latest blow for the Storm (8-32) who will be without Magbegor after she tore her right ACL on Wednesday while playing for the Australian women’s national team during the FIBA World Cup in Berlin.

Note

The World Cup semifinals feature a pair of games on Saturday that include Storm forward/center Dominique Malonga and rookie Awa Fam.

Malonga leads France against host Germany at 7:30 a.m. PT while Fam and Spain play four-time defending champion USA at 11 a.m.
