Driver ditches plates after causing deadly 3-car crash on Ocean Parkway: Sources

At least one person was killed following a three-car collision and hit-and-run along Brooklyn’s Ocean Parkway, police confirmed early Monday, with investigators looking for the driver who took off.
The chain-reaction crash occurred just after midnight, between Avenue R and Avenue S in Gravesend. Both directions of the busy roadway were closed all morning.
Investigators said the driver of an Audi sedan heading southbound lost control and swerved into the back of a Toyota Camry. The impact sent the Camry spinning until it slammed into a Toyota RAV4. Security video obtained by NBC New York showed at least one of the vehicles involved smashed violently into a large structure before coming to a stop.
Police said the 62-year-old driver of the Camry died at the hospital. A 39-year-old woman riding in the back of the car was hospitalized for injuries to her back and neck. The RAV4 driver was treated at the scene.
Both the Camry and RAV4 had Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC) plates, suggesting they were for-hire vehicles.
Law enforcement sources said the driver of the Audi removed the license plates on the car before driving off from the scene. That driver was still being sought by police hours after the deadly crash.
Those who live in the area said reckless driving has become all-too frequent lately, despite the speed cameras that are supposed to curtail dangerously bad behavior behind the wheel.
