A new open-access desktop software competitor to Adobe Photoshop has officially launched without recurring subscription fees, artificial intelligence credit tokens, or paid perpetual licenses. Developed by Tenzen Studio, Photon Studio is a completely free image-editing application that successfully attracted over $1,279 in community donations within its first three days of commercial public release.

Available natively across Windows, Linux, and macOS platforms, the software does not present in-app purchases, paid tier upgrades, or restrictive feature paywalls during everyday professional workflows. To ease the digital transition for creators switching from legacy editing suites, Photon Studio provides full native compatibility with standard Photoshop .psd project files. It also mirrors Photoshop’s established interface architecture, keyboard shortcuts, multi-layer handling, layer masks, and professional color adjustment workflows within a sleek, customizable, and fully multilingual operating environment.

Photon Studio, fully featured photoshop alternative, is now on Microsoft Store, and for Free!

41% of the user base of photon are windows users, now you can install it directly from the store.

Performance optimization stands as a primary engineering focus for the developer. In comparative technical evaluations, the application consumes 41% less RAM than Photoshop. Furthermore, it consistently records cold startup and active project load times roughly twice as fast as Affinity, an alternative creative suite traditionally recognized for lightweight hardware resource demands.

A central cornerstone of the application’s foundational design philosophy is strict user privacy. Tenzen Studio formally guarantees that imported personal creative user images are never uploaded to remote cloud servers or harvested to train external neural networks. Instead, smart object selection, universal function search, and assistive generative utilities execute entirely on-device using efficient local AI models installed directly onto the host PC.

While early public builds show reliable operational stability, a few minor issues remain evident. These early drawbacks include occasional untranslated menu strings, inconsistent behavior when applying complex advanced masks, and reduced UI fluidity across busy canvas projects containing hundreds of independent graphical elements. Tenzen Studio has publicly committed to addressing these specific edge cases in imminent routine software maintenance patches to enhance overall system responsiveness.

Photon Studio is available for immediate download as a free standalone installer through the official Tenzen Studio website and can also be acquired directly via the Microsoft Store on modern Windows machines.
